So, this past summer, I pulled out the pattern and found some fabric in my stash that I wanted to use with it and cut it out. Then it sat there. And sat there.
Last month, my friend Stephanie and I were trying to come up with projects for our Acteens to do and I just kept coming across this Pillowcase Dress idea. So, I mention it to her and how a lot of groups make them and send them to Africa or where ever. I thought for sure we could think of somewhere to send them. Along with mentioning it to her, I showed her these free patterns:
PillowCase Dress with regular ties
PillowCase Dress w/ Elastic
So, she made one. Well, once I saw that she made one, I thought, "What's keeping me from finishing that one that I started for Abigail??" So, I sat down and finished it!!
This is a little short, because it is just a "topper," but there are shorts underneath it. Anyhow, I love how it turned out and I LOVE THAT FABRIC!! I have no idea where I got the fabric, but it looks "retro" to me and I love it!! :) Anyhow, I was surprised at how easy this ended up being!!
While that first one is for my own child (and I will be making her MORE), I have started working on the ones for our Mission Project. We are looking at taking them to a small, "coal-mining" town in West Virginia that has really been hit hard by the economy. This little town is in need of shoes, school supplies, clothes (and probably much more), especially for the children.
Here are a couple of the dresses I have made so far:
I am having a blast making these!! We have had some fabrics donated (like both shown in the last picture) and some trims donated (the rick-rack on the black dress) and it's amazing what God is doing so far with people pulling together to do something good!! I can't wait to see what God has in store for us and for our Acteens and for War, West Virginia! May we make a difference in this world for Christ!!

These are darling Ladette! Ahnalin loves this style, so I usually make a few for her each summer.
